The theme for our March newsletter is air quality. In this edition, we have highlighted some of our most recent documents relating to indoor and outdoor air.
Our first resource is a case study that explores the issue of health impacts in the community from a persistent landfill fire and covers a number of topics including: outdoor air pollution; waste management; health equity; health surveillance; environmental surveillance; and occupational health.
Effective Indoor Air Interventions
This evidence review assesses interventions applicable to a Canadian setting that were undertaken to improve indoor air quality and health. Effectiveness of an intervention was based on reductions in both indoor air pollutants and improvements in human health.
Reducing Cardiovascular Health Impacts from Traffic
Recent studies suggest that exposure to both traffic-related air pollution and road traffic noise are independent risk factors for cardiovascular disease. This article examines nine different kinds of interventions and identifies those with the greatest potential benefits.
Institutional Carbon Monoxide Monitoring
As part of a three-year project funded by Health Canada, the NCCEH held a carbon monoxide (CO) expert meeting in Saskatoon, SK in Oct 2013. This resource provides links to all the presentations given at the workshop and summarizes the discussions held at the meeting.
